Editoriale. PRIN 2022: una buona occasione
per crescere ancora

The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia - Unimore stands out as a vibrant academic centre strongly
committed to research, as attested by the results of the PRIN 2022 call made public in September 2023.
Aimed at strengthening national research and fostering Italian participation in the EU Framework Programme
for Research and Innovation, the PRIN 2022 call reflects the objectives of the NRRP. PRIN projects, operating
in the ERC macrosectors (Life Sciences, Physical, Chemical and Engineering Sciences, and Social Sciences
and Humanities), span a wide range of disciplines and often require the collaboration of several experts due
to their complexity. The evaluation of the projects, conducted by three competent and independent external
auditors, is based on criteria such as scientific innovation, feasibility of the work plan and social and cultural
impact. Unimore submitted 286 projects, of which 138 were funded, including a significant group of young
researchers under 40. The division of funded projects into specific areas reflects the diversity of research
areas within the university. The special section of FocusUnimore illustrates the contents of the initiatives sup-
ported, facilitating understanding of academic research and promoting potential interdisciplinary connections
for future projects, thus consolidating Unimore’s increasingly relevant role at national and international level.
