Gender*MoRe: una nuova iniziativa di Unimore

per affrontare il “gender bias” in ambito

         accademico

Gender*MoRe: a new Unimore initiative to tackle “gender bias” in academia

The permanent documentation centre dedicated to gender bias is the main objective of Gender*MoRe,
a project of the University Library System which, on the basis of scientific evidence on significant gen-
der inequalities in the academic environment, envisages three main areas of intervention: selection and
cataloguing of scientific documentation in the sector; bibliometric analysis of the production and careers of
Unimore researchers; development of third mission and dissemination initiatives, with particular attention to
the theme of women-science, aimed at all citizens. Gender*MoRe is in line with other Unimore interventions
with the Gender Equality Plan (GEP), the result of the European project “Horizon 2020 LeTSGEPs - Lead-
ing Towards Sustainable Gender Equality Plans in Research”. Gender equality is one of the 17 Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) in the UN 2030 Agenda and reducing the gender gap is the focus of Women20
(W20), the official G20 group active on gender issues. The transformation of the goal into operational stra-
tegic plans can be found in the Gender Action Plans of UNICEF and UNESCO, which emphasise the themes
of universal access to quality education, social inclusiveness and sharing of skills in an increasingly digital
and interconnected world. Horizon Europe, the European Union’s framework programme for research and in-
novation 2021-2027, has made GEP a necessary prerequisite for access to funding. Thus, Gender*MoRe is
part of a wide range of interventions that Unimore has initiated to address gender inequalities. Gender*MoRe
has already received a special mention in the “Premio M. A. Abenante 2023” awarded by the Italian Library
Association, selected from numerous nominations submitted by various Italian libraries.
