An innovative therapy on the role of stem cells in the progression of pathology towards cancer devel-
opment: important recognition for the DEMO project within PRIN under 40

The project DEMO - Disease modelling and early therapeutic tools in chronic cholangiopathies and cholan-
giocarcinoma is a study carried out by the research team led by professor Gianluca Carnevale, which aims
to assess the role of stem cells in the progression of the disease towards cancer development. The results
expected from the DEMO project will provide the basis for a possible development of an innovative multi-target
therapy capable of modulating the processes underlying the development and progression of cholangiocarci-
noma. For its highly innovative character, DEMO has received a considerable funding of over € 450,000 from
the Ministry of University and Research within the Projects of National Interest (PRIN).
The DEMO project sees the participation of other Italian universities led by young researchers, and Professor
Carnevale is the Principal Investigator, as well as the first Unimore scholar to win a PRIN award reserved for
researchers under 40.
