Editorial. University of Modena and Reggio Emilia - Unimore and Fondazione Collegio San Carlo:
between ancient roots and future scenarios
The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Unimore) and the Fondazione Collegio San Carlo boast a
historic collaboration that is expanding with new initiatives. The Foundation, recognised for its educational
and cultural role, hosts students from all over Italy in the University College, offering services and academic
opportunities. In addition, the Cultural Centre and the Religious Studies Centre promote interdisciplinary
debates on philosophical, political, economic and religious topics.
An innovative example of this synergy is Radio FSC Unimore, born in 2019 and becoming the University’s
web-radio in 2022. This project allows students to experiment with new communication languages through
podcasts, streaming and interviews, with a focus on intercultural and civic issues as in the ‘Modena Emersa’
column.
The collaboration also extends to research, with the PhD Programme in Humanities Technology and Soci-
ety (HTS), born from the evolution of the PhD Programme in Humanities. This interdisciplinary programme,
realised with the Almo Collegio Borromeo of Pavia, aims to train researchers with skills that can also be
applied outside the academy, integrating humanities, social and technological disciplines to face the chal-
lenges of digitalisation and new technologies.
The PhD Programme, which is part of the Marco Biagi Department of Economics, is characterised by a var-
ied teaching staff and a strong international vocation. A further development in this sense is the International
Seminar ‘New Technologies, Ethics, Culture and Society’, organised with the University of Seville and the
CRID, with the first edition scheduled for February 2025.
Finally, the Foundation offers citizens and the academic community access to its rich specialised library. This
collaboration, founded on solid historical roots, continues to evolve with new projects, combining research,
education and cultural dissemination.
