MOLECOLES: an event dedicated to the memory of Prof. Ulderico Segre
On 11 February 2025, the Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences of Unimore is organising a
Study Day in memory of Prof. Ulderico Segre, Professor of Physical Chemistry who died prematurely in
2008. A leading figure in the scientific and academic community, Professor Segre made significant contribu-
tions to Italian chemistry, playing a pivotal role in the organisation of the Chemistry and Chemical Sciences
degree programmes and the Scientific Degrees Project, an initiative aimed at promoting the study of core
scientific subjects. During the event, which is part of Unimore’s 850th anniversary celebrations, Prof. Segre’s
colleagues will recall his academic and scientific career, tracing his impact in the field of research and pro-
gramme. This will be followed by the screening of the documentary film *MOLECOLE*, directed by his son
Andrea Segre. The film explores how the pandemic lockdown returned Venice to its natural state and history,
with Professor Segre as the central figure. The documentary, presented at the 77th Venice International Film
Festival in 2020, was made using Super8 footage shot by the professor himself. The event is open to both
the academic community and citizens.
