Future Artificial Intelligence Research
Future Artificial Intelligence Research
FAIR - Future Artificial Intelligence Research is the Italian project approved in the call ‘Extended Partner-
ships: Artificial Intelligence. Fundamental aspects’ of the NRRP, defined on one of the hottest topics of
current Information Technology, i.e. the theoretical, modelling and engineering aspects of modern Artificial
Intelligence, strongly desired by the Italian Artificial Intelligence community to study and develop the meth-
odological foundations, architectural models, theory and practice of AI. The FAIR project brings together 350
researchers and is developed in 10 spokes, geographically distributed in the different Italian regions, each of
which addresses a different Artificial Intelligence issue, such as sustainability, integration, security, reliability.
The spoke of our territory, which is headed by the University of Bologna, Unimore and the National Institute
for Nuclear Physics (INFN), deals with the ‘Pervasiveness of AI’, as the point of connection between the
pure theory of AI, and related worlds, such as sensors, education, economics, industry. Spoke 8, ‘Pervasive
AI’, sees the involvement of Prof. Michela Milano, Director of the Human AI Lab in Bologna, and Prof. Rita
Cucchiara, Director of the AI Research and Innovation Center in Modena. Unimore participates in the FAIR
foundation in the steering committee of the HUB and participates as a CNR affiliate through the contact
persons of the three departments of the School of Engineering: Rita Cucchiara from DIEF, Franco Zambo-
nelli from DISMI and Luca Zanni from FIM, in order to further develop the already internationally recognised
expertise that our university has in the fields of artificial vision and deep learning, intelligent agent systems
and mathematical models for artificial intelligence.
