Unimore pays great attention to the culture of disability and SLD and has implemented for several years many
actions aimed at promoting an environment as inclusive as possible, creating a network with local entities and
institutions.
The Ministry of the University provides for the allocation of a funding and the appointment of a Delegate of the
Rector to coordinate the “Reception Service for disabled students and with SLD”, to ensure the right to study
and equal training opportunities for all students.
This service is the first point of contact and plays a strategic role of reception and service management, with
relational, organisational, psychological and administrative skills.
Unimore also includes the figure of Reception Contact Person and the University Commission for Disability and
SLD.
The Reception Service carries out several activities, it takes charge of many practical needs such as aids for
individual study, digital texts, the presence of a LIS (Italian sign language) translator, ensures travel inside and
outside the university. Every year a plan is drawn up to remove any architectural barriers. Students with SLD
are also supported during both incoming and outgoing international mobility programmes.
The Reception Service participates European projects as a lead partner or partner.
The number of disabled students who the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia have welcomed and taken
charge of has increased exponentially over the years: from 13 enrolled in 2000 to 347 in the Academic Year
2019/2020; same increase for students with SLD, from 3 in 2010 to over 700 in 2020. These figures make
