progetto Ragazze Digitali

IT is a girl’s game: the evolution of the Digital Girls project

Now known nationally and internationally, Ragazze Digitali is a free Summer Camp dedicated to female
students in their 3rd and 4th year of high school. Born in Modena in 2013 as a result of the collaboration
between the Department of Engineering “Enzo Ferrari” of Unimore and the association EWMD (European
Women Management Development) with the aim of bringing girls closer to IT and digital technologies in a
creative and fun way. The project is currently being replicated in ten cities between Emilia Romagna and
Lombardy, for years supported by the municipalities of Modena and Reggio Emilia, the Modena Founda-
tion and various private companies. As of 2022, the project is promoted by the Emilia-Romagna Region in
collaboration with all the universities in the region and is also active in the city of Mantua, where Unimore is
present with its Degree Programme in Computer Engineering. The activities are based on a learn-by-doing
laboratory approach, which will allow female students, in line with their age, to learn the basics of program-
ming in a fun and stimulating way. The project has recently received important international recognition.
