‘Ragazze digitali’ and the future of female STEM: 15 Summer Camps planned for 2025
The “Ragazze Digitali” project (Digital Girls project), launched in 2014 by the University of Modena and
Reggio Emilia in collaboration with the EWMD association, aims to reduce the gender gap in STEM fields by
encouraging young women to pursue scientific and technological careers. In 2025, the project will organise
15 free summer camps for female high school students, focusing on STEM disciplines such as computer
science, electronic engineering, bioengineering, and biology. The camps, which will take place in various
cities across Emilia Romagna, will include hands-on activities such as creating video games, developing
electronic solutions with Arduino, and designing in the mechanical and biomedical fields. The initiative,
supported by European funds and local partnerships, offers interactive learning opportunities, promotes
computational thinking, and develops transversal skills such as teamwork and communication. The project
is also expanding to Mantua, where courses will be offered for middle and high school students in 2025,
fostering inclusivity and innovation in STEM.
