Ten-year anniversary of the Earthquake in Emilia: conferences and educational days organised by
Unimore

In 2021, an important Memorandum of Understanding was signed for the operation and consolidation of
the 2012 Earthquake Documentation Centre by the universities of Emilia-Romagna, the Region of Emilia-
Romagna, the Municipality of Mirandola, the Union of Municipalities of Modena, the Regional School Office
for Emilia-Romagna, the Modena Historical Institute and the Cassa di Risparmio di Mirandola Foundation.
In this context, the ‘Lessons of the Emilia 2012 Earthquake’ were organised, 10 events not to forget the
earthquake that hit the lower Modenese plain so hard. On the occasion of the ten-year anniversary of the
earthquake that struck Emilia in 2012, Unimore coordinated an intense conference activity entitled “Les-
sons from the 2012 Emilia Earthquake - 10 events for 10 years”, to which lecturers from other universities
in Emilia also contributed, as part of the activities proposed by the Emilia 2012 Earthquake Documenta-
tion Centre. Several municipalities in the province of Modena were involved in a conference that began in
Mirandola and was divided into six thematic sessions in San Felice sul Panaro, Concordia, Cavezzo, Medolla,
Novi di Modena and Finale Emilia, areas hard hit by the earthquake. The series of activities involved several
Unimore lecturers. The activity culminated in the autumn teaching days dedicated to high schools in Finale
Emilia and Mirandola. Among the participants were professors from Unimore, Unife and experts from INGV
- National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology. Between seminars and lectures, the activities attracted
great interest from schools and students. The educational days were followed by the preparation of the
educational exhibition ‘Io non tremo’, in Mirandola.
