Didattica universitaria innovativa e inclusione

Innovative and Inclusive Academia”: University teaching and inclusion at the heart of the project

Professor Antonella Lotti of the Surgical, Medical and Dental Department (Reggio Emilia) is coordinator of a
multidisciplinary research project, “Innovative and Inclusive Academia”, aimed at helping the improvement
of university teaching, at local and national level, involving the University’s expertise and professional skills
relating to special pedagogy, qualitative and quantitative research in the educational and social fields, and
faculty development. The project focuses on university teaching and the processes of inclusion, learning,
teaching and evaluation, starting from two questions: what educational approach promotes inclusion by
making the university an educational ecosystem capable of welcoming everyone, respecting and valuing
the differences? What are the teaching strategies that make students the protagonists of their learning, by
involving them in an inclusive and effective way at the same time? The interdisciplinary research group has
prepared and administered a questionnaire to the University’s teachers and is planning a series of seminars
and workshops on innovative teaching and inclusion. Following the many activities aimed at teachers, the
study group will analyse students’ perceptions and behaviours: through semi-structured questionnaires and
qualitative and quantitative research techniques, the research activity will allow the verification of the degree
of appreciation, as well as the impact of some teaching practices and inclusive tools on multiple variables.
