Targeted therapies: a national network for resource sharing and data exchange

Infections caused by multi-resistant bacteria and fungi, together with the emergence and re-emergence of
viruses and other highly contagious diseases, represent significant challenges in clinical and organisational
settings. The need has emerged for multicentre networks that enable accurate epidemiological surveillance
and interdisciplinary research initiatives for rapid and effective responses. The project ‘Severe infections and
sepsis: clinical NEtwork for the identification of clinical and diagnostic markers, immunological monitoring
and “targeted and personalised” therapies for adults, children and patients admitted to intensive care units’,
with Prof. Massimo Girardis of the Surgical, Medical and Dental Department of Morphological Sciences
related to transplant, oncology and regenerative medicine, as reference point for Unimore, fits into this
context. The main objective is the creation of a national network facilitating the sharing of resources and the
exchange of data for the identification and monitoring of serious infections and sepsis caused by pathogens
of community and hospital origin.
