Unimore and Africa: the TOGETHER project (Training Opportunities for GautEng youth in Emilia-Ro-
magna)

The TOGETHER training initiative (Training Opportunities for GautEng youth in Emilia-Romagna), is an in-
ternational project that promotes the development of professional skills of young South Africans, through
exchanges of know-how with professionals in the automotive sector in Emilia-Romagna. It is promoted by the
Municipality of Reggio Emilia with the E35 Foundation, in collaboration with Unindustria Reggio Emilia, and
has Unimore as institutional partner. It was born as an action to strengthen the Automotive Hub of Chamdor,
a space opened in 2018 in a Johannesburg township, following the visit by some Reggio Emilia companies
of the Automotive Consortium of Unindustria to some townships of the automotive district of Johannesburg.
These companies identified a potential collaboration for the creation of an automotive hub for innovation and
development projects; they would provide machinery and equipment, as well as training and skills at discoun-
ted prices. Selected young South Africans will be able to take part in online training sessions, and some of
them will have a 10-day study tour in Italy to visit companies in the automotive sector.
