International Day of Women and Girls in Science

On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Department of Science and
Engineering Methods and the Department of Life Sciences joined the numerous initiatives throughout Italy,
organising an event to promote and encourage discussion on the presence of women and girls in research
and stimulate a critical view of gender prejudices and stereotypes in the scientific world. According to the
recent Unesco Report on Science, the gap between men and women in scientific disciplines is still huge.
Only 28.8% of women globally succeed in science. The presence of women in the STEM area is low even
in our university, where the male presence is always higher than the female presence. To reduce the gender
gap in the STEM area, the Gender Equality Plan contains dedicated actions.
